Happy October, friends! I’ve been reading Harry Potter, burning candles like gasoline, and shutting the blinds to pretend I live somewhere that actually gets four seasons.
Here’s a special Cozy Fall Edition of things I think you might like!
1. This (short) (gorgeous) video game.
I’m not really much of a gamer. But A Short Hike is beautiful — the style, the music, the story — and it captivated me from beginning to end. (True to it’s name, it is very short — you’ll actually be able to finish it.)
I’d recommend you break this out when you need a cozy evening but don’t want to dive into a book. Absolutely lovely.

2. This masterpiece.
Surprise! I’m recommending Walden again. It’s the most impactful and thoughtful book I’ve read this year, and autumn seems like the perfect time to pick it up.
There are slow parts…but isn’t slowing down nice, once in a while?
Take it slow, let it sit. It can take all fall and winter if it needs to. What’s the rush?
(If you want a teeny pocket version, I made a print-at-home zine with some of my favorite quotes! You can access it here.)
3. This teeny-tiny miniseries.
Just 10 episodes at 10 minutes each, but packed with so much heart and story you’ll swear you watched 10 seasons.
Cozy-spooky, heartwarming, and a little bit absurd, Over the Garden Wall is one of my supremely favorite pieces of art — bar none.
4. This album of 50s choral music.
I got this record for $1 at Goodwill in 2020 and it’s been looping in my house ever since. Easy to Remember is technically on Spotify, but it’s missing 4 tracks that are on the vinyl.1
If you’re feeling adventurous, hit up your local thrift store and look for it! But if you can’t find this exact one, don’t worry — anything by The Norman Luboff Choir is guaranteed to be disgustingly beautiful.
5. And finally, this short poem.
I wrote this in the parking lot at work one day when I just wanted to sit.
I AM, AT LAST
I am, at last, a strawb’rry scone
Out of oven, into home
Freed from taxes, meetings, death
With melted butter ‘stead of breath
Why rush around and grunt and ache?
When you could just sit on a plate.

That’s it! Happy fall! And if you do try any of these things and you like them, shoot me an email. I’d love to hear from you.
-Tim
And they’re really good tracks, too. It’s Easy To Remember; Dream; Dream a Little Dream of Me; and Penthouse Serenade. Penthouse Serenade is probably my favorite on the album.
Reading your stuff really fluffs up my life. Wonderful!
